Q-1. Who is Alvero Negredo ?
A-1. Alvero Negredo is a striker who currently plays for Sevilla, he has played 103 games for the club. He usually plays as the second striker before Luis Fabiano left for Brazil. Negredo hasn’t played many games for Spain, though aged 26 years he has only managed to score six goals in 12 games for his country. Negredo, started playing his football for Real Madrid B, his impressive performances were noticed but, the Spaniard was unable to break into the first team and played just a single game before he was sold UD Almeria.
Q-2. Why did Negredo start if the race was between Torres and Fabregas ?
A-2. Negredo was a controversial inclusion in the Spanish side. It was believed that the in-form Roberto Soldado will make it through to Poland-Ukraine. Let us compare the two strikers, Soldado scored 27 goals this season, while Negredo could only manage 14 goals. Almost double, maybe what Del bosque required was a back up for David Silva or Iniesta, but there isn’t any point in selecting Negredo when you have chelsea player of the year – Juan Mata sitting on the bench and Pedro Rodriguez of Barcelona.
Q-3. Who should have started the game ? (Author’s view)
A-3.
- Fernando Torres
I thought Spain needed a complete striker to start the game, I want to openly ask Del Bosque what does he actually want from Fernando Torres, the Spanish forward has finally started to comeback to his original shape, he is doing whatever a worlds best forward can do. It is quite evident that Torres’s form is on the rise, and if he is dropped again and again it will become more frustrating for him.
- Fernando Llorente
If you really had to gamble, then why not Fernando Llorente ? The Athletic forward has possibly done everything to convince Del Bosque, but unfortunately had only 20 international appearances, making his debut in 2008. Llorente is known to be a completer striker with inch perfect finishing and strong with the aerial balls, in a nutshell Fernando Llorente completely suits the Spanish game, which is based on converting chances which you get them.
